The Murwillumbah Community Centre
The Murwillumbah Community Centre (MCC) is a community based incorporated association providing information, referral and support services to the broad tweed community as well as Murwillumbah and surrounding communities. It meets a diverse range of needs of those communities through the dedication and commitment of a team of volunteers under the guidance of a paid manager and a volunteer management committee.
The Centre provides support to individuals and families with diverse needs, offering comprehensive and up to date information and referrals to appropriate services. They also provide emergency relief by way of food vouchers & assistance with phone & electricity bills, free Financial Counselling, an audio service for the visually impaired, support groups, children's playgroup and a homeless program that provides referrals for emergency accommodation, shower facilities, tea and coffee, light meals & material assistance to the ever increasing number of homeless and disadvantaged individuals and families in the area.
Identified community needs are met through community development and developing partnerships with appropriate organisations to provide programs that increase people's life skills, focusing on educational, recreational, vocational and social needs.
The Murwillumbah Community Centre is possibly the only centre in the town where anyone, particularly men can freely drop in for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat with people.
