Murwillumbah Community Centre

Tenancy Support Project

The Mercy Foundation Ltd have provided funding to the Murwillumbah Community Centre to employ a professional tenancy support officer who is to assist in alleviating tenancy difficulties endured by homeless persons, and those at risk of homelessness, in need of secure, rental accommodation.

Who is elligible for assistance?

The target group for the Tenancy Support Project includes all homeless families, homeless individuals and anyone 25 years of age and over at risk of becoming homeless, but particularly targets rough sleepers.

Persons living in temporary accommodation such as tents or caravans, or temporarily sleeping at friends' homes may also fit the criteria of our target group.

Services

We aim to provide assistance with securing sustainable housing options to all homeless families and homeless individuals 25 years old and over, by particular emphasis placed on providing assistance in securing long term rental accommodation and ongoing, support and case management to sustain tenancies.

Assistance with finding suitable rental accommodation is available as is assistance with completing forms for both public and private rentals. Personal assistance via liason with real estate property managers is also available as is ongoing case management support. Some limited emergency accomodation may be available for suitable applicants.

Appointments

Phone 02 6672 3521 to make an appointment to see our tenancy officer should you be within the target group and experiencing difficulty securing suitable rental accommodation. The housing officer is available Monday to Thursday each week (excepting public holidays and during the Christmas break) but please phone first for an appointment to register for our tenancy service.

What documents you need

Please bring with you any documentation relating to previous rental accommodation including references and the details of any current referees. It may be of assistance to bring along any other references, no matter how dated, from employers, etc, as property managers are concerned with securing suitable tennents who can demonstrate an ability to keep the rent paid, etc. As such any documents that show a stable work or tennant history will be of assistance.

What we don't do

We are not a property management agency. We do not gather commissions from real estate agents. Our mandate is to assist the homeless members of our community, including those who are at risk of homelessness to secure suitable, long term rental accommodation thus assisting the fight against homelessness.

Security of your personal rental information

Your personal information is stored securely, access is permitted only to authorised personnel. The Murwillumbah Community Centre privacy policy ensures that your personal information is not shared with anyone.
